Template information:
The original of all current vans and transporters comes from a truck that was used for internal transport at the Volkswagen factory in Wolfsburg in the late 1940s. She inspired the Dutch importer Ben Pon with the idea of a transport vehicle. In the late 1940s, VW developed several prototypes of a spacious vehicle suitable for transportation purposes. Since no name they would like for this vehicle was available for unrestricted use, the new vehicle class was renamed Transporter. From March 8, 1950, the first generation of the transporter began production. The truck with a typical V-shaped front and split windshield was available in various versions, including a minibus. This technology was based on the Volkswagen Type 1, the so-called Beetle, so the T1 had an air-cooled four-cylinder horizontally opposed engine. This reliable rear engine had a capacity of 1.2 liters, which was increased in 1961 to 34 horsepower. The luxury version of the minibus, a special nine-seater model, is still known as the Samba bus and, with its oval skylights, very comfortable seats, folding roof and a range of chrome parts, has an unmistakable car charm.
