Template information:
The patrol boat, Riverine or PBR, is the United States Navy's designation for a small fixed-hull patrol boat used in the Vietnam War from March 1966 to 1975. They were deployed in a force that grew to 250 boats, the most common vessels in Vietnam.
The PBR was a versatile fiberglass hull with water jet propulsion that allowed it to operate in shallow, weeded rivers. At full load, it pumped only 2 feet (0.61 m) of water. The drives can be turned in the opposite direction, turn the ship to its own length or stop at full speed for several lengths of the ship.
The boats were powered by two Detroit Diesel 6V53N engines with an output of 180 hp (115 kW) with pump-jet drives Jacuzzi Brothers. The ships reached a maximum speed of 28.5 knots (53 km / h 32 mph).
A typical configuration of the armament included twins M2HB 0.50 caliber (12.7 mm), machine guns forward in a rotating shielded tub. One rear M2HB, one or two M60 7.62 mm light machine guns mounted on the right and left side and Mk 19 grenade launcher. There was also a full number of M16 rifles, shotguns, 45 ACP small arms and hand grenades. Some had a "back" arrangement, a 0.50 caliber machine gun on top of an 81 mm mortar. Others had a 20 mm Mk16 Mod 4 Colt automatic cannon mounted on the bow, derived from the AN / M3 Hispano-Suiza HS.404 version and also found on the LCM and PBR.
