The space shuttle, developed by the US space agency NASA, has long been the only reusable space transportation system in the world. It consisted of a space shuttle, an external hydrogen and oxygen fuel tank, and two auxiliary solid-fuel rockets. The shuttle had 3 reusable rocket engines.
The space shuttle's first launch took place on April 12, 1981, the Columbia space shuttle. The last flight was provided by the Atlantis space shuttle on July 8, 2011. A total of 135 flights were performed.
The program ended with the obsolescence of the shuttle and the large financial costs of their operation and flights.
