The Kampfpanzer Leopard 1 (also Leopard 1, simply known as Kampfpanzer Leopard) is a main battle tank designed by Porsche and manufactured by Krauss-Maffei in West Germany. He first entered the service in 1965.

Between 1975 and 1977, all tanks from the first four series were converted to the Leopard 1A1A1 standard and received additional turret armor developed by Blohm & Voss, consisting of rubber-coated steel plates bolted to the turret (including the rear turret basket) with spacers resistant against impacts. The gun casing received a wedge-shaped armor cover made of welded steel plates, and the engine air intake system was improved. The modernized vehicles weighed 42.4 tons.
