Template information:
After the Bf 109, the Fw 190 was the second standard fighter aircraft of the German Luftwaffe. It has proven not only to be a very versatile, but also a durable machine. Since the beginning of 1944, it has also been produced in large quantities in the form of a heavy fighter-bomber with the designation Fw 190 F-8. The F Series was developed in 1943 specifically for ground attacks. On five external pylons, the aircraft was able to carry a bomb load weighing 700 kg. The armor plates protecting the fuselage and longitudinal wing reinforcements in the area of the main landing gear were strengthened, otherwise the F-8 variant corresponded to the A-8 fighter version. Already after mass production began, a new propeller with wooden blades and a bubble-shaped cockpit cover with reinforced armor protecting the pilot were added. From the beginning of 1944 until the end of the war, German troops received more than 6,500 Fw 190s, either in the A-8 or F-8 version.
