Template information:
F4U-4 was the last variant to action during World War II. Deliveries to the US Navy F4U-4 began in early 1945. It had a two-stage supercharged engine with an output of 2,100 hp (1,600 kW) -18 W. When the cylinders were injected with a mixture of water / alcohol, the power was boosted to 2,450 hp (1,830 kW) . Unarmed wing fuel tanks with a capacity of 62 US gal (230 L) were removed for better maneuverability at the expense of maximum range. The propeller was changed to a four-bladed type. Top speed was increased to 448 miles per hour (721 km / h) and climb speed to more than 4,500 feet per minute (1,400 m / min). The windshield was now flat bulletproof to prevent optical distortion, a change from the curved plexiglass windshields with the inner flat glass of earlier corsairs.
