Template information:
The F-4 Phantom II, developed by the American design company McDonnell Douglas, is a two-seater supersonic all-weather fighter-bomber. He entered service during the 1960s and is still considered one of the most famous aircraft in the history of military aviation. The original project was created specifically for the needs of the US Navy, but in the end it was used by all US components and achieved considerable commercial success in other countries around the world. The original version designed for the Navy underwent its first improvement in 1966, when production of the Phantom F-4J began, which received new systems that improved its combat capabilities in air combat and attacks on ground targets. Avionics also underwent a significant transformation and the aircraft also received an innovative fire control system with the ability to "look-down / shoot-down" (the ability to attack from a height at targets against the background of the ground). Thanks to a pair of improved powerful General Electric J-79-10 jet engines, the new Phantom was able to reach a maximum speed of 1240 knots. Speed, thrust and reliability were the main advantages of the Phantom II, which managed to balance its worse maneuverability caused by the large size of the aircraft.
