Template information:
Carroll Shelby, a former car racer, dreamed of creating the fastest sports car. To this end, in September 1961, he turned to AC with a proposal to produce a car adapted for an eight-cylinder fork. The first prototype was created in February 1962. After tests and minor modifications, series production began the same year. The resulting car was given the official name Shelby-Ford AC Cobra, in the US usually abbreviated to Shellby Cobra. The car was known in the European market as the AC Cobra.
Lightweight car with steel tube frame and aluminum casing. The axle suspension was solved by transverse leaf springs and all wheels had disc brakes. The first version suffered from various technical shortcomings, but above all did not achieve the stated performance. A total of 126 pieces (including the prototype) were produced. The last 51 pieces were equipped with an 289 engine, which was subsequently used in the Mark II. The engine was a Ford Windsor 260 (4.3l) V8 with an output of 194kW reaching a maximum speed of 245 km / h.
