Information about the template:
As a thoroughbred of the aviation world, the Supermarine Spitfire underwent constant development during the Second World War, with new versions of the fighter never too far from joining RAF squadrons.
The aircraft that fought in the Battle of Britain were due to undergo a major upgrade, however during development the Luftwaffe introduced its latest variant of the Bf 109 fighter, which shot down Spitfires in large numbers - urgent action was needed.
The Spitfire Mk.V was essentially a modernized Mk.II airframe fitted with the latest version of the Merlin engine which gave the aircraft more high altitude performance and this variant would eventually equip over 140 RAF squadrons.
