Description

Plastic model Airfix A55003 - Sherman Firefly tank in 1:72 scale for gluing. The kit contains 31 pieces, length 110 mm, difficulty 1.

As the Allied forces began to move deeper from the landing beaches into the Normandy countryside, it was clear to them that they would face strong resistance from German armor, including the dreaded heavy tank battalions. Fortunately, they already had a tank that could stand up to the Tigers and Panthers - the Sherman Firefly, a machine designed in Britain that connected the base of the American M4 Sherman tank with their famous 17-pound anti-tank cannon.

In combat, one Firefly was usually deployed on four standard Shermans. The German tank commanders therefore soon learned to look for its longer barrel and tried to neutralize them first. However, the British tried to make such identification more difficult, so they masked the front part of the cannons with light paint, thanks to which it could be confused with the standard Sherman with a 75 mm cannon. With this trick, they tried to buy enough time to strike first.
