The North American P51 Mustang is considered one of the most iconic American fighter aircraft of World War II. It was originally designed according to the specifications of the British Air Force, then it underwent a significant change when it was equipped with a new Rolls Royce Merlin engine. Its long range and superior firepower made it the perfect escort aircraft, able to protect the bombers all the way to Berlin and back. After the end of the war, the P51 also served in Korea and was used by some air forces until the early 1980s.
