Information about the template:
With a reputation as an exceptional aerial observation aircraft with excellent short field performance, when Trans-Antarctic Commonwealth officials were looking for a suitable reconnaissance and support aircraft in 1956, they knew exactly where to turn.
The Auster Aircraft Company was asked to specially modify two of their T.7 twin-control aircraft for this task, which included additional radio equipment, larger tail surfaces and the ability to fit them with either floats or canopies as the operation required.
The aircraft were also completed in a high visibility scheme, in preparation for the conditions expected during the expedition, which resulted in the first overland flight of Antarctica over the South Pole.
