In November 1967, the 250 SE was replaced by the 280 SE. It was powered by a new 2,778 cc M130 engine that produced 160 hp (119 kW) with a top speed of 193 km/h (120 mph) (188 km/h (117 mph) with automatic transmission). Inside, the car got the option of wood veneer on the dashboard and other minor changes, including door lock buttons and other heater levers. The hubcaps have been changed again to a new one-piece wheel cover and the outside mirror has been changed.
