When the late 2007 Harley, badged XR1200, was destined for Europe only in 2008, the decision seemed confusing to Americans who couldn't buy an XR.
The Model X swaps the 43mm non-adjustable XR1200 inverted fork for a fully adjustable 43mm large piston Showa fork that first appeared in a wide version on the '09 ZX-6R. The fairly basic dual-coil shocks are also swapped out in favor of fully adjustable 36mm Showa shocks. Although the XR-X still uses the same powerful two-piston Nissin calipers from the previous XR model, the 292mm rotors are now of the floating variety. The spirited 1200cc Sportster engine in the X model gets the blackout treatment, as does the dual top-lift exhaust system that resembles the XR750's tall pipes. The XR1200 engine and exhaust were finished in silver.
