In 1977 the FXS Low Rider was introduced. The Low Rider featured alloy wheels front and rear, dual disc brakes on the front wheel, a 32° extended fork and a 27" seat height. Unlike the Super Glide, the Low Rider was an instant hit. All three FX models reverted to using Fat Bob tanks , but with a special center distributor that contained a tachometer. The FXS Low Rider was powered by a 74cc 1206cc V-Twin producing 58 horsepower. This first Low Rider was capable of a top speed of 158 km/h.
The 1977 Harley-Davidson Confederate Edition Super Glide had commemorative paint and tank and fender decals. It was produced in the number of only 228 pieces. It became one of the rarest motorcycles of this company.
