The 2020 Corvette, both coupe and convertible configurations of the base Stingray, debuted 3 months apart. The coupe debuted on July 18, 2019 in three launch colors, red (with the Z51 package), white and blue, while the convertible debuted on October 2 at the Kennedy Space Center alongside the C8.R race car., which took part in the 2020 Daytona 24 Hours.
The Corvette C8 is the first production Corvette to feature a mid-rear engine configuration. It is also GM's first rear-engine production car since the 1984 Pontiac Fiero. The base engine is a 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8 (called the LT2) that generates 495 horsepower. The C8 is the first Corvette offered without a traditional manual transmission, while the convertible is the first Corvette with a retractable hardtop.
