It was originally presented at the Paris Motor Show in 1978. It first competed in the 1980 World Rally Championship in Group B in Corsica. In contrast to the standard version, the engine was located in the middle behind the front seats. In the front were the cooling components and the reserve. The body was extended by 25 cm. The car was equipped with rear-wheel drive. The propulsion was provided by a Garett T2 turbocharged four-cylinder OHV with an original output of 247 hp. Later, the power increased to 355 hp. The transmission was manually synchronized. All three doors were made of aluminum, the hood and front fenders of plastic. The front window was made of safety glass and the others of clear plastic.
