The Volkswagen Samba Van has countless nicknames around the world. One of the most famous is the "Hippie Van" due to its enormous popularity in the 1960s in the USA and Europe among the hippie movement.
Its design was simple but spacious, mainly due to the rear engine. The van became popular with young people because it allowed the group to travel comfortably and was large enough to live so that it could be used for long-distance trips, such as music festivals or surfing. "Hippie Van" remains iconic today, thanks to being featured album cover musicians such as Bob Dylan. But most famous of all, the Woodstock Music Festival, which took place in the summer of 1969.
The Volkswagen Samba, also known as the Sunroof Deluxe in the United States, was the most luxurious version of the T1. Volkswagen began production of the Sambas in 1951. It had a 1.6 L engine and an output of 35 kW.
