After the 2012 season, the vehicle was renamed the RS5 DTM, which corresponds to the Audi RS5 series model. It is powered by atmospheric intake and two DOHC camshafts. The engine itself is a custom-made Audi 4.0 L V8 with four valves per cylinder and an angle of 90 degrees. It has an output of approximately 343 kW. The RS5 DTM control unit is Bosch Motronic MS 5.1 and other components such as CDI ignition are also supplied by Bosch.
The Audi RS5 DTM had its racing debut in the Hockenheimring DTM bike on May 5, 2013. On March 4, 2014, the RS5 DTM was redesigned and launched during the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. During development, the vehicle was codenamed "RC3". After the 2nd round at the Hockenheimring in 2018 and the seasonal testing of the Jerez Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters, the Audi RS5 DTM was permanently withdrawn from the competition and replaced by the newly supercharged Audi RS5 Turbo DTM from the 2019 season.
